The Monroe Zoo
Senior thesis project exploring the effectiveness of simplicity vs. complexity in visual design through the creation of a fictional zoo branding system.
PROJECT GOALS
• Explore the relationship between simplicity and complexity in design
• Create a visual system that feels direct, approachable, educational, and modern.
• Develop a scalable identity system usable across signage, merchandise, and promotional materials
• Balance playful visual elements with clarity and usability.
DESIGN DECISIONS
• A simplified visual language was used to improve readability and recognition across applications
• The color system was designed to assist navigation and improve clarity for viewers
• Rounded forms and welcoming typography help create an accessible identity
• Consistent spacing, hierarchy, and asset structure were emphasized to maintain cohesion across the system.
